We are happy to say that we now use USDA Organic coconut oil and USDA Organic, certified sustainably-sourced palm oil in our soap recipes! Our palm oil is environmentally sound and orangutan-safe!
We have always strived to use organic ingredients when they are cost-effective and easy enough for us to obtain, and in fact grow many of our soapmaking herbs in our own garden. While we can’t call our herbs “organic” due to USDA labeling regulations, we are very careful about the products we use in our garden as we also grow our own veggies!
We also want to let our customers know that the vast majority of our soaps are 100% vegan (look for any soaps made without tallow). We do make soaps with tallow (beef fat) from time to time because of its excellent soaping qualities. This tallow is sourced from a local butcher as a byproduct of the meat-cutting process, and is then rendered (typically twice) by us. For our friends and customers with allergies, we avoid using peanut and almond oils in any of our products.
We want you to know what’s in your soap, because what you use on your skin — your body’s largest organ — is as important to you as it is to us. If you ever have any questions about our products, please feel free to ask!
